Anthology of Russian classical romance

At the beginning of the 19th century, the romance genre gained particular popularity in Russia, seamlessly blending Russian poetry, Russian song, and Western European music traditions.

Gradually, the romance evolved from a vocal miniature with simple guitar or piano accompaniment into a more expansive work, often imbued with profound meaning. The genre's spread across various social environments has determined its varieties, among which, in addition to classical examples of musical art, urban, gypsy, and "cruel" romances stand out.

The concert program features a multifaceted palette of works from the 19th and early 20th centuries, which are an integral part of the anthology of Russian classical romance.

Chamber vocal miniatures and duets by Mikhail Glinka, Alexander Dargomyzhsky, Alexander Borodin, Modest Mussorgsky, Pyotr Tchaikovsky, and Sergei Rachmaninoff encompass a wide range of moods and reflections and convey a piece of the enigmatic Russian soul.
