A Literary and Musical Performance for the 255th Anniversary of I. A. Krylov's Birth

February 2024 marked the 255th anniversary of the birth of the great fabulist, playwright, satirist-publicist and poet Ivan Andreevich Krylov (1769-1844). This November marks the 180th anniversary of his death.

The entire life and work of I.A. Krylov can be called, without exaggeration, an encyclopedia of Russian life. His fables remain relevant to this day. For the third century, they have been popular and loved by Russian readers of all ages; many poetic lines from these fables have become folk proverbs and sayings. Krylov was recognized by his contemporaries as one of the most outstanding writers of Russia, and he remains so in the History of Russian Literature.

But the satirical pamphlets of Ivan Andreevich, his publishing activities, and many facts of his complex and intricate biography are less known to the Russian public.

A remarkable book by the St. Petersburg writer Mikhail Arkadyevich Gordin, telling about the life and work of I.A. Krylov, formed the basis of a literary and musical performance created and performed by the artist-master of artistic words of the State Budgetary Cultural Institution "Petersburg-Concert" Alexey Emelianov.

In addition to fragments of this book, the literary and musical performance will feature fables and poems, fragments of satirical works by I.A. Krylov, romances based on his poems by Russian composers, memoirs of contemporaries, historical evidence and anecdotes from the life of the great fabulist, poems and sayings of A.S. Pushkin about Krylov. And also poems of modern poets: A.S. Kushner and V.L. Britanishsky. And, of course, the music of Ivan Andreevich's favorite composers will be played, since he himself was devoted to playing the violin all his life. No less important is his other passion - for card games, which led to sad consequences.

All this will be presented in the literary and musical performance.
