Concert

The great scientist Galileo Galilei was born into a musical family. His father, Vincenzo Galilei, went down in music history as a composer, lutenist, theorist, and member of the Florentine Camerata musical society. He personally taught his son to play the lute, but forbade him from studying mathematics. However, the strict father later lifted the ban and even collaborated with Galileo on research into the nature of sound. Michelangelo Galilei, Galileo's brother, was also a musician and composer.

Galileo Galilei's scientific achievements are so great that they obscure the fact that he was also a remarkable lutenist and was considered one of the finest musicians of his time. The concert program included works by Galileo, Marcus Galilei, Francois di Milano, and other composers of the era. Today, the renowned composer Philip Glass has turned to the image of the scientist in his opera "Galileo Galilei." A fragment of this work is also included in the concert program.
