The experimental project by "Petersburg Concert" combined music, physical performance, documentary theater, an immersive show, video art, light projection technologies, and digital scenography.

The performance's protagonist is St. Petersburg, or more precisely, one of the exceptional events in its history: the most powerful and devastating flood that occurred on November 7 (19), 1824.

How did the city survive this catastrophe? What realizations echoed in the polyphonic fragments of life and death—candid, touching, terrifying, dramatic, and wounding... Was this flood a punishment from Heaven, or did it become an opportunity for a spiritual, scientific, and technological reboot? Is the flood connected to the life and reign of Alexander I, a story full of mystical omens? All of this will be told in poignant episodes of the horror play through fragments of great literature, documentary evidence from contemporaries and eyewitnesses – letters, memoirs, diary pages and newspaper articles, and, of course, folk legends, gossip, tales, and anecdotes…

Audiences will have a rare chance to gain a new emotional experience of reliving two-hundred-year-old history here and now, undergo a unique stress test for their capacity for compassion and empathy, and feel part of the soul of St. Petersburg.

The project, performed by the Divertissement Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Honored Artist of Russia Ilya Ioff, will feature music by Dmitri Shostakovich, Alfred Schnittke, Beat Furrer, David Lang, Samuel Barber, Bernard Herrmann, Max Richter, Antonio Vivaldi, and other composers.

Vocal accompaniment for the climactic scenes — the "Rozhdestvo" ensemble (artistic director — Honored Artist of Russia Olga Stupneva). Plastic performance — contemporary dance masters from the Kannon Dance Center for the Development of Contemporary Choreography Projects, Natalia and Vadim Kasparov. Documentary theater — artists from the St. Petersburg State Musical and Drama Theater "ART."
