"Ki"

This production, whose plot, like particles of light forming a radiant beam, is drawn from an ancient spiritual and physical practice, was created by young Korean choreographer Kim Minsoo, artistic director of Lucas Crew Dance Company (Korea), specifically for the Kannon Dance company during his March visit to St. Petersburg.

The performance was first shown on March 2nd to guests of the "LOOK@DANCE KOREA / FOCUS KOREA" program, the result of the choreographer and dancers' collaborative work and experimental creative exploration. Now, audiences will see the full premiere, and the production will later be included in the repertoire.

"Ki" (氣) is the fundamental force from which all things are born and grow; it is the energy necessary for humans and animals to act and remain active. The choreography visualizes subtle processes invisible to the eye: the collection, dispersal, release, absorption, and circulation of energy in the body. Balance and imbalance, stability and instability—these contrasts of physical dynamics help us sense how the great force of life permeates every being and how it influences communities united by thought or action. Movement itself becomes meaning: "Ki" manifests itself in the rhythm, structure, and synchronicity of the collective dance, bypassing narratives and social narratives.

"Butterfly"

Understanding the dance language of Norwegian choreographer Jo Strömgren is a task difficult to describe verbally. Intuition, piercing humor, and the ability to construct unexpected storylines—these are just the beginnings of the master's unique signature. His visit to Russia to stage the play "Butterfly" at the Kannon Dance Theatre was not only a creative event but also an attempt by the choreographer to highlight pressing issues of the present day.

The phenomenon of the "butterfly effect" remains a mystery. It is known that, navigating at night by the stars and the moon, these creatures experience an irresistible attraction to bright artificial light. This enchanting, insidious mirage-like call distorts their impeccable inner compass, leading them into the unknown.
