Johann Strauss semi-staged based on the operetta "Die Fledermaus"

"They live only in Russia!" Johann Strauss (son) enthusiastically shared in one of his letters. For ten consecutive seasons (beginning in 1856), the renowned musician, at the invitation of the Tsarskoye Selo Railway, performed at the Pavlovsk Music Station, where he conducted the orchestra and played the violin, not only his own numerous compositions, including those dedicated to the Venice of the North, but also works by Russian composers.

Thousands of listeners flocked to see "Ivan Strauss" (as the composer was then known and advertised in newspapers and on posters), whose performances were invariably met with applause, and his personality aroused genuine interest.

The attraction was mutual: Strauss was enchanted by Russia, which he called his second homeland, and by Russian culture. Much later, he confessed: "I have encountered here, throughout my entire stay, complete hospitality, benevolence, and a fair appreciation of my work, and I will never forget the happiest days of my life spent among you."

The musicians of the Petersburg Concert will "guide" the evening's guests through the pages of the operetta "Die Fledermaus," which has become a model of the genre and an object of adoration for fans worldwide.
