Nutcracker

The Nutcracker performance

On Christmas, her godfather gives young Marie a wooden Nutcracker. The girl's pure, loving heart and her selfless love free the Nutcracker from its evil spell, transforming him into a handsome prince.

The Nutcracker is based on the fairy tale by E. T. Hoffmann and the music of P. I. Tchaikovsky's third ballet. The key idea of the performance is the words of Marie's godfather, Drosselmeyr: "It is important to learn to see not with the eyes, but with the heart."

The performance is rich in interactivity and motor improvisation by young audience members. Brief excerpts from the famous ballet's music and colorful sand paintings will keep even the youngest audience members from four years old entertained, although the performance is also interesting for younger schoolchildren.

The performance features young students from ballet schools, as well as dancers from the Mariinsky Theatre.

Director, author, and presenter: O. Piccolo; Anastasia Yarkova, designer; Mariinsky Theatre artist Alexander Shirokov, violin; Svetlana Taipova, piano, celesta; children's ballet school students Varvara Balakshina as Marie and Yakov Fyodorov as the Prince.
