From the same time, the Gypsies began assimilating the Russian peasant song and saturating it with “steppe” affecting intonations, from which a special genre of tabor “Russian-Gypsy” songs with mixed Russian-Gypsy lyrics subsequently formed, which in turn was transformed into a sensual, salon in the late 19th century genre of gypsy romance.

Gypsy romance, a specific genre of salon-pop song, consisting of a peculiar combination of elements of gypsy tabor and Russian peasant songs and urban "philistine" romance. Of the performers of the gypsy romance, Anastasia Vyaltseva, Varia Panina and others enjoyed great popularity at one time. The musicians included the most vivid and beloved examples of ancient Russian and gypsy romance into the concert program.
