The Nameless Star

A melodrama by the St. Petersburg State Musical and Drama Theatre "ART" directed by Honored Artist of Russia Alexander Isakov. Connoisseurs and theatre lovers know the famous play by the Romanian writer Mihail Sebastian by the film adaptation of the same name, directed by Mikhail Kozakov. This touching melodrama about the love between a lady of the demimonde and an astronomy teacher has already won the hearts of Russian film enthusiasts. This text has also been frequently staged in Russian theatre. Alexander Isakov, the chief director of the Petersburg Concert, Honored Artist of Russia, artistic director of the ART Theater, took on a new genre for his troupe, melodrama, to offer his own interpretation of this text.

Carefully recreating the world of a small, out‑of‑the‑way town, where two completely different people met at the station, the director devised an entire route from point “A” to point “B” in the unique building of the Catherine Assembly. According to this route, the audience moves from the huge White Hall — which serves as the station in this stage version of the performance — to the cozy, intimate space of the Small Hall, the room of the stargazer. And in this swift journey spanning three acts, the mystery of the meeting between the audience and the characters of “The Nameless Star” emerges: temperamental, sentimental, persistent, and tender inhabitants of a small world, ready to lift the veil on their big and small secrets for you — the audience of “Petersburg‑Concert”.

The bewildering story of tenderness, parting, and the elusive dialogue between lovers will undoubtedly resonate and be recognized in every audience member’s heart, and perhaps it will open up new galaxies and planets.
