Musical immersive performance based on the works of Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky

Arkady Gevondov's musically immersive production is a bold interpretation of Alexander Pushkin's celebrated verse novel and Pyotr Tchaikovsky's lyrical opera. This isn't just another production of a timeless classic, but a profound reimagining, allowing us to explore the characters' internal conflicts and moral dilemmas from an unexpected perspective.

"I propose we look at Eugene Onegin through the prism of what I consider to be his key character trait—his lack of principles—and its fatal impact on the characters' destinies," says the director. "We've all written essays about the 'superfluous man,' his disillusionment with the world around him, and his spiritual emptiness. But have we ever considered the root of all of Onegin's problems? I believe it stems from his lack of principles, his constant compromises with his conscience, his lack of inner strength, and his rejection of a clear stance on life. All of this is remarkably resonant with today."

One of the production's main goals is to create a bridge between two geniuses, between words and music. "I really want those who devoured Pushkin to come and hear how Tchaikovsky brilliantly revealed his poetry in music," explains Arkady Gevondov. "And those who know and love Tchaikovsky's operas to experience anew the depth of Pushkin's words. The production is aimed at a wide audience, especially young people, for whom the themes of self-discovery and life principles are particularly relevant."

To convey the full power of Tchaikovsky's multicolored orchestral palette, the creators of the production employ an original approach. The main arias and duets will be performed with piano accompaniment, while key orchestral fragments will be professionally recorded, creating the necessary emotional depth.

This musically immersive performance will unfold in the Mirror Room, the Small Hall, and the suite of rooms in the Kochneva House. Along with the performers, the audience will move from room to room, becoming increasingly immersed in the atmosphere of key scenes: from Eugene Onegin's meeting with the Larins to the writing of Tatyana's first love letter, from the tragic duel to the polonaise at Prince Gremin's ball.

The immersive format of the performance and the unique character of the historic chamber space of the Kochneva House ensure incredible audience involvement. The creators promise that the audience will literally feel the artists' breath. The actors will not only be expected to sing virtuously but also demonstrate high-level acting skills.

The creators of the production seamlessly combine the psychological depth of Pushkin's work with the expressive beauty of Tchaikovsky's musical rendering of the poetic lines, inviting audiences to reflect on the characters' destinies and the consequences of their choices, offering a unique perspective on the eternal themes of love, betrayal, responsibility, and self-discovery. Don't miss the opportunity to experience the world of Eugene Onegin like never before!
